The families of young people lost after a devastating fire at a establishment in a Switzerland's winter destination are facing an painful wait for official news and pleading for information about their loved ones publicly.

The inferno devastated the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of January 1st. Circulated footage show the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.

Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to identify the victims of the fire, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and hurt another 119.
