The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about observing this lovable family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
