The Actress Says Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Dividing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions regarding the Trump presidency, concerned it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and further divisions within the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
In a recent interview, she commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, through repeated campaigns, public figures fail to influence in any way on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has admitted freely about backing Republican and Democratic candidates in past elections. Growing up with a right-leaning family in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 then moving to the left-leaning politics and revealing she realized during President Obama’s term that supporting the GOP was opposing her own rights as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she stated that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a catastrophic event” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “because I feel she’s an excellent choice and I am confident that she will do whatever she can to safeguard abortion access.”
Industry Position
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her disapproval of Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence stars have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by his election win.
“The second term feels different,” noted she regarding Trump’s presidency. “Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
Latest Film
The actor is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her mental health in the countryside. During a interview session for the project in Venice, Lawrence spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by saying that she was saddened by “the disrespect in the discourse of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids right now. It’s going to be normal to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She aimed to shift frustration about the issue to leaders rather than actors and artists. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration endorsed by thousands of Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim at a young age for her role in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her work in the new film. While Lynne Ramsay has disputed the story being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychological distress, she shared that she connected with parts of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, shortly after production wrapped.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was receiving counseling, but I began using a medication called that medicine and I took it for a short period and it really helped.”
Film Challenges
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed of the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the movie while she was in pregnancy and limited physically.
“It feels nice,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
