Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it needs to change.”
