Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
