Following multiple episodes of suspense, plots and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors has reached a nail-biting finale
Spoiler alert - This article discloses key moments from The Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, viewers witnessed eliminations, double-crosses, intense glares, and a memorable moment that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
Yet on Thursday night, the ultimate victor of the inaugural celebrity edition emerged triumphant.
Out of nineteen participants, just a handful remained: Traitors and loyal players competing for the winnings.
Soon, the competition tightened to just three: the remaining contestants.
In the end, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the winner, in a surprising result that went viral and left him emotional.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, admitting to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they consoled him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms immediately exploded with this development. "Most awful traitor ever being the best traitor ever," commented one user.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated another, while someone else called it "the TV moment of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, gets to keep all the prize money, with the final pot reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still left the nation in shock, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, executing an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, the other contestants explained why no one had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"Most people didn't target him because how can you vote for someone who is so charming?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I want to participate once more... I don't think it would work a second time!"
Thursday evening's episode was extended to 70 minutes on television. It had a different start than typical episodes, as every celebrity were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited some moments from each of the finalists' experience in the game.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began this game a bit of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, a different player noted that being in the final was "way more stressful than playing for England", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
In the beginning in the episode, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, replacing an earlier departed style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. Impressive style.
Next up was the challenge, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
This task saw them ripping up images of eliminated players. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, it was time for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact beforehand, vowing to stick together. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated a player, while the other just giggled.
And one adhered to his promise. Yet, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still received the majority elimination votes.
The last deceiver appeared to be experiencing significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were equally disappointed.
"I hoped against that player to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," commented a commentator.
"You will forever be remembered in Traitors history," posted another user.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Before long, the game reached the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.
The last players stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, just when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.
One contestant was painfully banished - following a surprising decision from their partner, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed last minute like that," remarked the ousted contestant. Subsequently, it was revealed that when they message, the betrayed player refers to the other by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, only three contestants were still competing: the final trio.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the competition. So did a different player, and it all came down to the third, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where the other players comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it will be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they commented.
Happily, the champion soon recovered from his bout of tears, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and now I stand a winner," the winner said.
He also joked about that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. It will be remembered fondly.
